Electric propulsion and regeneration system
In our never ending quest to build the most modern and comfortable boats we have provided them with optional electric propulsion. Not only is this environmentally friendlier but it is quieter, with no smoke smell or soot, nearly vibration free, easier to maintain and provides electric generation while sailing.
Green Motion retractable drive system
At African Cats we didn't just substitute the electric drive for the diesel, we moved the motors outside of the hull and made them retractable such that they are more central to the boat (providing better weight balance).
The propellers are not in line with the rudders. This is most important because the turbulence caused by a rotating prop while it is generating electricity disturbs the flow of water over the rudders and makes steering much more difficult.
- Being able to retract the electric motors under the bridge deck reduces the hydrodynamic resistance considerably and this in turn makes the boat faster and makes sailing with less wind possible.
- Not having sail drives or shaft drives reduces the number of through hull fittings under the water line to only 3 in the GreenCat, 2 water inlets, 1 in each hull and one hole for the recessed transducer for depth and speed.
